The relief sculpture class produced his first relief sculpture, titled Venus, which was cast into bronze as well as cast iron.  An interesting piece of information about this first piece is that he cast it himself at an open workshop offered by Sloss Furnace, which is a National Historical Museum of an old blast furnace.  They offer a metal arts program. This led Beaulieu to build his own foundry.

After studying piles of books on the subject of casting bronze Beaulieu built his own foundry in 2000.  This foundry allowed him to cast pieces that as a novice sculptor he would not have been able to cast otherwise, it would have just been to costly.  It also created a strong sense of how he wanted his works chased and patinated, thus, creating a situation where he is most happy with the works he actually casts himself as he has complete control of the piece from start to finish.  This leads to a limited production of bronzes.

Since establishing his own art casting foundry and selling his works, Beaulieu has written several articles as a contributing writer for Sculpture Journal in order to share his expertise in the casting of Bronze Sculpture.  ("A Strong Wind Blows", Sculpture Journal, October 2005, pp.4-7; "Customizing A Sculpture Stand", Sculpture Journal, September 2005, p 23.)

He is a member of the National Sculpture Society.

Beaulieu currently resides in Birmingham, Alabama. He is married to his wife, Donna Beaulieu, who is an attorney, and they have an 11 year old son.
